Full-timing on an RV is a great life, and we have enjoyed every day that we have lived on our RV, which we have named “Columbus”, as it really has been a voyage of discovery for us. We have always enjoyed being together, but could we cope with life in a 32ft motorhome – the answer has been a resounding Yes!

It all started when we were looking ahead to retirement, and discussing where we wanted to live. It did not take us long to agree that we wanted somewhere with the prospect of better weather than the UK (even though we were living in Bournemouth at the time). A trip to Spain made us realise two things – that we were never going to find the right place just by going to one location and looking around there without a lot more time than we had, and that we were unenthusiastic about the building site that appears to cover most of southern Spain.

The idea of hiring a motorhome then came to mind, as it would allow us to travel and see more locations. Hire became buy, and we planned an expedition to motorhome dealers to look at what was available. At the first of these we saw a Fleetwood Flair, and were smitten with the advantages of an RV! Nine months later we found Columbus, and we’ve never looked back.

One of our early journeys saw us travelling around France, which included a weekend visit to some friends who live in the Cevennes. Jeffrey kindly offered to meet us and guide us to their village; no problem, but a couple of miles up the road he signalled right, and turned his car onto the bridge (right). Bob, who was driving, hiccupped, turned white and bravely followed – we’d never been along anything quite like this.

Three hairpin bends proved to be the next points of interest as we climbed the mountain road, and then we arrived at the village. Out of his shop sped the village baker, petrified that this leviathan would never get between the trees on one side and his wife’s car on the other, but his fears turned to relief as we were through with a little room to spare. As you can see (right), the drive though the village was also interesting, with balconies at inconvenient heights in what was a relatively narrow street. So we have no fears these days about where we can take Columbus!

Our journeys through France were all a delight, and the area that really brought us to a decision was the Limousin. The beautiful forests, plentiful lakes and empty roads, coupled with the lovely people that we met convinced us that this was the area for us. In addition the area had the advantage that it was just a days drive from the Channel ports, and at the time we were making the decision there was a letter in one of the motorhome magazines ruing the lack of a camping park at that distance from the Channel that (a) could accommodate full size RVs and (b) was open all year.

Thus was born the idea of Parc Verger. Come in the Spring and enjoy the blossom, or later in the year and enjoy the fruit from our trees. Come en route to or from Spain, or just for a restful holiday or to do some sightseeing or fishing in this beautiful area. We hope that you will pay us a visit, and we will look forward to welcoming you.

Work has begun on an extension to the site.
